About BMNF
Most people arrive here because something still does not make sense.
A beloved animal may be living with a persistent symptom, a recurring condition, or a growing collection of diagnoses and treatments—yet the larger picture remains unresolved.
Perhaps the treatments helped for a while. Perhaps they helped one problem while another appeared. Perhaps the test results were called “normal,” even though the animal clearly was not. Or perhaps no one has had the time or opportunity to step back and ask:
What is this symptom trying to tell us?
Better Medicine Naturally Foundation was created for people who believe that question still matters.
Symptoms are not merely inconveniences to suppress. They are signals—visible expressions of something happening within a living system.
That does not mean symptoms should be ignored or that relief is unimportant. It means that lasting restoration may require more than controlling what can be seen on the surface.
The same symptom can arise through very different biological pathways. The same diagnosis can develop for different reasons in different animals. And a treatment that is appropriate at one moment may obscure important evidence, create a new obstacle, or become less appropriate as circumstances change.
BMNF exists to help people pause, observe more carefully, organize what is known, recognize what remains unknown, and ask better questions before tomorrow's options are unintentionally eliminated while solving today's problem.
BMNF is not organized around allegiance to one school, discipline, product category, or therapeutic ideology.
We are interested in what the animal's biology is doing, why it may be doing it, and what combination of approaches offers the most coherent path toward restoration.
That requires disciplined observation, biological reasoning, pattern recognition, continuing investigation, and thoughtful collaboration with the animal's local veterinarian and other qualified professionals.
It also requires the humility to recognize that complex cases rarely become clearer by forcing every animal through the same explanation or protocol.
Through education, community, research, courses, carefully bounded consultation services, and selected restorative resources, BMNF helps members become more capable participants in the investigation of their animals' health.
The goal is not to turn animal owners into veterinarians.
The goal is to help them become better observers, better historians, better questioners, and better partners in the search for answers.
The Disease Investigation Operating System—DIOS—helps organize the search for the biological origins, mechanisms, history, exposures, and reinforcing patterns beneath a symptom or condition.
The Optimization Research Center—ORC—helps evaluate the available pathways toward restoration: what may help, what may interfere, what deserves priority, and how present decisions may affect future options.
These are complementary processes. To be in a position to find any patient's pathway to optimized recovery, the actual biological origins of disease must be found.
Products, protocols, technologies, and professional services may become useful tools within that process. They are not the purpose of BMNF, and no single one of them substitutes for understanding the individual animal.
Better Medicine Naturally Foundation was founded by Gaylon J. TeSlaa, DVM, following more than forty-three years in veterinary medicine—decades that revealed, again and again, that the most difficult cases weren't missing another treatment; they were missing a sufficiently broad context in which the existing evidence could be understood.

Public Weekly Grand Rounds provide a recurring place to gather, explore important questions, identify shared concerns, and help shape future education. Membership adds a protected environment for deeper learning, discussion, resources, and participation.
Courses examine significant symptoms and health problems through both investigation and restoration. Consultation pathways provide additional structure when an individual case requires more focused analysis. Field Notes preserve developing observations, questions, and discoveries along the way.
Each part serves the same larger purpose:
To make better thinking available before another unresolved problem becomes another chronic pattern.
BMNF does not replace an animal's local veterinarian, emergency care, physical examination, diagnostic testing, or necessary treatment.
Members remain responsible for maintaining an appropriate veterinary relationship. Urgent and potentially life-threatening conditions require prompt local evaluation.
BMNF's role is complementary: helping people organize the history, preserve meaningful evidence, understand competing possibilities, prepare better questions, evaluate options more thoughtfully, and participate more effectively in decisions affecting their animals.
The leaping greyhound represents more than aspiration.
It represents the moment attention rises above the immediate symptom and begins searching for the larger pattern.
It is the refusal to assume that “managed” always means understood, that “common” means inevitable, or that the absence of an easy answer means no better answer can be found.
